What is a DNG file?

DNG is Adobe’s open RAW format. iPhone ProRAW photos, Google Pixel RAW photos, Leica, Pentax and some DJI drones save DNG, and many people convert other RAW files to DNG for archiving.

How RAW to JPG works here

Every camera saves a ready-made JPEG preview inside its RAW file: it’s what you see on the camera’s screen, with the camera’s colours and picture style applied. We take that preview out and save it as a JPG, on your device. It’s quick, needs no RAW software, and looks like the photo you saw when you took it.

Most cameras store a full-size preview. A few older models store a smaller one. Either way, the size is shown before you save.

Questions

Can I do this without a website?

On iPhone, ProRAW photos already show normally in Photos, and sharing them usually sends a JPEG or HEIC. On a Mac, Preview and Photos open DNG and can export JPEG. On Windows, the Photos app opens DNG with the free Raw Image Extension.

Why is my iPhone ProRAW photo so big?

ProRAW keeps the sensor data plus extra processing information, so a 48 MP ProRAW photo can be 75 MB or more. The JPG is a small fraction of that.

Can I adjust exposure or white balance?

Not here. You get the camera’s own JPEG, with the settings you shot with. To edit the RAW data itself, use a RAW editor such as your camera maker’s free app, Lightroom or darktable.

Are my RAW files uploaded anywhere?

No. RAW files are big, and they never leave your device. Everything happens in your browser, even in airplane mode.
