Questions
Why do images from websites save as WebP?
Many websites serve images as WebP because the files are small and pages load faster. Your browser shows them fine, but when you save one you get a .webp file that some apps, printers and upload forms won’t accept. A JPG works with all of them.
Can I do this without a website?
One file at a time, yes. On a Mac, open the image in Preview, choose File, then Export, and pick JPEG. On Windows 11, open it in Paint and use Save as, then JPEG. This page handles a batch in one go and works on a phone.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG can’t store transparency, so transparent parts become white. If you need to keep them, use WebP to PNG instead.
Will the JPG look worse?
At the default Best setting you won’t see a difference. The JPG may be a little larger than the WebP, which is normal.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser converts them on your device. It works in airplane mode too.
