How it works
- Pick your photos. One photo from your camera roll or computer.
- We fix them on your phone.Choose a grid or carousel, then drag and zoom to frame it.
- Save them back to Photos.Every tile into your camera roll, in posting order.
Three ways to split
Profile grid spreads one photo across 3 to 15 posts, three across, so your profile shows the whole picture. Carousel turns a wide photo or panorama into 2 to 20 slides that people swipe through in one post. Any grid cuts a photo into as many rows and columns as you like, for printing a poster on several pages, making a puzzle or sharing a big image in parts.
White lines over the photo show every cut. Drag to move the photo, and pinch or use the slider to zoom. If a cut would run through someone’s face, the photo moves so it doesn’t, and you get a hint when it still does.
Three tips for a split that works
- Lead with your strongest image. The first tile or slide is what people see before they decide to look further.
- End with a payoff. Save something worth reaching for the last slide, or the corner of the grid people see last.
- Put the cuts in calm areas. Sky, water, walls and plain backgrounds hide a seam. Faces, text and busy detail show it.
Saved in the order you post them
Instagram puts the newest post at the top left of your profile, so a grid is posted from the bottom right. The preview numbers every tile and marks the one to post first, and the files are saved in that order with names that start with their number, such as 01-post-first_row3-col3.jpg. On a phone they go to your camera roll through the share sheet. On a computer they download one by one, or as a .zip if you ask.
Questions
What size are the tiles?
Profile grid tiles are 1080 × 1440 pixels (3:4), the shape the profile grid has shown since January 2025, or 1080 × 1080 if you choose square. Carousel slides are 1080 pixels wide in 4:5, 1:1 or 1.91:1. Any grid tiles share your photo’s own pixels evenly.
How big should my photo be?
Under the settings you’ll see the size that keeps every tile sharp, for example 3240 × 4320 pixels for a nine post grid. A smaller photo still works, but the tiles are enlarged and can look soft, and the page tells you when that happens.
Why does the grid start at the bottom right?
Each new post pushes the others along, so the first post you make ends up last: bottom right. Post tile 1 first, then 2, 3 and so on, and the picture comes together at the top.
Can I split a HEIC photo from my iPhone?
Yes. HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and RAW photos all open, and the tiles are saved as JPG.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is split on your phone or computer, in the browser. Load the page, turn on airplane mode and try it: it still works.
