Turn one, or turn them all
Tap Left or Right to turn every photo a quarter turn, Mirror to flip them left to right, or Flip to turn them upside down. To fix just one photo, tap its picture: each tap turns it a quarter turn to the right.
Lossless, like jpegtran
A JPG is stored as small 8 by 8 blocks of compressed picture. We move and turn those blocks as they are instead of decoding and re-saving the photo, so not a single pixel changes. If the width or height isn’t a multiple of 16, up to 15 pixels may be trimmed from one edge to keep it lossless.
Questions
Does rotating a JPG lower its quality?
Not here. Many apps re-save the photo, which loses a little quality each time. We turn the compressed picture directly, so it stays exactly as sharp however often you turn it.
Why does the file size change a little?
We rebuild the file’s compression tables for the turned picture, which often makes it a few percent smaller. The picture itself is unchanged.
Does it keep the date the photo was taken?
Yes. Photos keep their date taken, so they stay in the right place in your camera roll. Location and other details are left out.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Turning happens on your phone or computer, in the browser. Load the page, turn on airplane mode and try it: it still works.
