How it works

  1. Pick your photos.A small photo, logo or screenshot.
  2. We fix them on your phone. An AI model enlarges it on your device, adding sharp detail.
  3. Save them back to Photos.Into your camera roll, or your Downloads on a computer.

Bigger without the blur

Stretching a small photo makes it soft and blocky. An upscaler redraws it bigger: edges stay crisp, noise and JPEG blocks are smoothed away, and textures look natural. Use it for an old photo you only have small, a thumbnail, a logo for print, or a picture from a message that came through tiny.

It runs Real-ESRGAN, a well-known open-source upscaler, on your phone. That takes real computing, so it is made for small images. Before it starts, it checks how fast your device is and takes as much of the photo as it can do in about 15 seconds: on a recent phone with a fast graphics chip, up to about 1000 by 1000 pixels in and 4000 by 4000 out; on older devices, 512 by 512 in. Bigger photos are shrunk to that size first, and already have the detail an upscaler would add.

What it can and can’t do

It sharpens and cleans up what’s there. It can’t recover detail that was never captured: a face that is a few pixels wide stays a guess, and a photo blurred by camera shake gets cleaner, not perfectly sharp. Text and faces can come out looking a little painted, so check the result before you use it.

Questions

2× or 4×?

4× for tiny images like thumbnails and icons. 2× when the photo is already medium-sized and only needs a bit more resolution, for example to print it larger.

Can it unblur a photo?

It reduces softness, noise and compression blocks, so slightly blurry photos look clearer. It can’t undo strong motion blur or bad focus.

Why is there a size limit?

The model does millions of calculations for every pixel, on your device rather than on a server. The limit is set by your device’s speed, so it takes seconds rather than minutes.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The upscaling runs on your phone or computer, in the browser. The first time, your device downloads the upscaler (about 6 MB) and keeps it. After that, it works in airplane mode.
